Bioengineering in Food - Research Paper Example 262). Hybridization, then again, alludes to the procedure of cross-rearing hereditarily divergent harvests, both inside and between species (Aheto, 2008, p. 77). Hereditary building and hybridization contrast in cause: qualities from hereditary designing begin from any living creature, infection, or even substance union while qualities from hybridization may start from hereditarily extraordinary plant genera and families. Hereditary building empowered food and yield researchers to control the DNA of plants at atomic level. The significant contrasts of hereditary building and hybridizat ion in horticulture are observable as far as results and monetary effect. Regardless of how great the reproducer is in picking the best guardians to cross or mixture, the outcome is as yet flighty in the hereditary levels. DNA of parent crops recombines arbitrarily and may show attractive attributes, for example, bug obstruction yet the crossover may likewise display unwanted characteristics, for example, low quality and lower yield. In light of the likelihood to create a harvest which has unwanted qualities and the incredible arrangement of exertion required to isolate unfortunate from alluring attributes, hybridization or conventional rearing is tedious, work escalated, and isn't financially viable. Then, hereditary designing is monetarily useful as it permits division of explicit attributes of DNA to be chosen and evacuated undesirable characteristics, making the ideal quality controlled, exact, and of top notch (Wieczorek, 2003, p. 1). Favorable circumstances of Bioengineering W ieczorek (2003) recognized a couple of instances of advantages or focal points of bioengineering to the horticulture, among of which are: expanded harvest efficiency, upgraded crop security, enhancements in food handling, improved healthy benefit, better flavor, and fresher produce (p. 2-3). Hereditarily designed yields expanded harvest profitability since it presented characteristics, for example, sickness obstruction and expanded dry season resilience to the yields (Wieczorek, 2003, p. 2). Instances of which are the cases in University of Hawaii and Cornell University that created two assortments of papaya impervious to papaya ringspot infection. The utilized of hereditary building in horticulture has likewise expanded harvest profitability by creating dry spell safe plants that are equipped for utilizing water productively. Hereditary building additionally upgraded crop assurance and can make financially savvy answers for pests’ issues (Wieczorek, 2003, p. 2). The examinat ion from the dirt bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis has made protein in the yields, for example, corn, cotton, and potato into a protein that murders certain creepy crawlies when they feed on the plants. This mechanical advancement is likewise the protein utilized in regular bug sprays. The comparable case applies to Bt designed into a corn crop, making bug control all the more economically, increasingly successful, and more affordable, however Bt crops are viewed as inacceptable on the grounds that the whole

On Feminism and Postmodernism Essay -- Feminist Sociology Essays

On Feminism and Postmodernism It appears to be fitting that the 'marriage' of women's liberation and postmodernism is one laden with both distinction and contention. The way that these differences happen inside the domain of the scholarly without a doubt puts a wry grin on the substance of either party. While women's liberation and postmodernism share a few attributes, most strikingly the deconstruction of the masculinised western philosophy, woman's rights decides to put itself inside the absolutism of the pioneer development. While woman's rights contends for the continuation of the subject/object polarity, pointing generally to invert the ladylike situation of the last to the previous, postmodernism would have the pioneer development deconstructed completely, including all such metanarratives. Postmodernism likewise champions the divided self, the possibility of a unitary 'entire' existing just inside an invented reality. This thought is one which women's liberation has taken up as of late. In this time of postfeminism, new roads are being looked to spread the goals of woman's rights and the capability of potential vehicles, such broad communications, are being figured it out. Be that as it may, when utilizing broad communications, for example, TV, in such a design, the intellectualizations of the highbrow pioneer/women's activist developments have been to a great extent stripped away, leaving little however an effectively absorbable skeletal establishment. The point of such a technique is to focus on a more youthful segment than customary scrutinize would as a rule center upon. The TV program Buffy the Vampire Slayer is such a vehicle, introducing women's liberation in a postmodern structure 'for the general population'. Key Strategies Extracted from E- Learning

Question: Discuss about theKey Strategies Extracted from E- Learning. Answer: Introduction: This assignment talks about the various points organizations need to consider while formulating the strategies to compete in the market place, moreover how the existing business model can be innovated, How Apple successfully implemented these strategies and when required efficiently reinvented in business model. Key Points Extracted from the E-learning video (What is Strategy). Strategy is mere a word used in complex business plans (Kryscynski,D 2015). It is the combination of tactics, Goals, Objectives and Description. In order to formulate strategy, the essential questions that one needs to take into consideration are: Where do we compete? Focus on the industries, products and geographical areas. What unique value do we bring to the table? The factors of image, reliability, product and services What are the organizational resources and capabilities? In an organization Resources are the extensive human capital, superior technology, strong network connection and unique reputation. The resources that we have can be both tangible and intangible. Capabilities refers to how effectively and rationally one can manage and use the resources. How to sustain our ability to provide unique value? How to avoid mitigation is one such point which provides great value and uniqueness, this helps to create brand loyalty among the customers. Application in Apple As a part of understanding strategy it is very important to realize that it is what you actually do rather than what you intend to do (Girothra,K, netissene,S 2014). It evolves as you continue to proceed with implementation and one must be very vigilant about time as it is one of the most important factor. The above discussed strategies can be seen implemented in Apple Incorporative. Apple is very clear about its target segment in which its competing and that is high end market whether it be iPhone, MacBook or iPad. Apple focuses on bringing some exceptional value factors such as reliability and uniqueness the idea of touchscreen smartphones was introduced by apple which made them the pioneer in the industry. They continuously innovate and improve its resources and capabilities to keep them competitive in the market. (O'Brien, B, 1996). Apple being one of the most valued brand in the world take advantage of it at every point of time this can be seen in the pricing of the product they manufacture it at a cost which is 1/10th of the selling price. In Apple the conceptualization and innovation of new product design and constant revaluation of market scenario and the concept of iCloud and iOS are Non-imitable through these prospects, Apple builds an ability to provide unique value and sustain it in the long run. Advocating Ideas in Xiaomi We can apply or suggest to apply the above stated strategies in a new emerging organization like Xiaomi which is planning to go expand in the newer markets such as that of US and Australia. Since, in the existing markets they are competing in the lower end smartphones they now need to decide if they want to continue it or want to change it. Till now they have been sustaining on the low cost market penetration strategy which can pose a greater problem since many companies are imitating it so they need to find some more unique values for their products. Since they have been the largest exporters of the smart phones in the region they can go with economies of scale and should focus on optimum resource utilization. Their strong financial performance will help them get more investors and fund them to develop high-end technologies. They should try and innovate x-factor that cannot be imitated. Since low cost strategy cannot be sustained for long they need to innovate with the product or ne ed to look for additional businesses to cope up with the increasing completion. Key Points Extracted from the E-learning video (What is Business Model Innovation). Innovation is the key factor to defeat path dependency and stay competitive in todays economy (HSGUniStGallen, 2003). Innovation is not necessarily about new technologies, excessive research, creating completely new ideas, its about just learning from others and reinventing your business model to stay with the new market trends. There are various myths about business model innovation such as innovation comes from ideas nobody had before, big success requires big resources and innovation break through are based on fascinating technologies (Lindgardt,Z et al., 2009). The Business Model innovation should change at least two out of the 4 Dimensions Who is your target customer? What do you offer to the customer? How do you calculate the value proposition? How do you generate revenue? (Bourgeois, L, et al, 1987) The 4 Is of change in business model (Mathur,S, Kenyon,A, 2001): Initiation: Analyze Current Business Model Ideation: Confront 55 Business Model and develop new model on these basics Integration: Consistency in Business Model and the concept of four dimensional organizational fit. Implementation: The Process of implementing the business model iteratively and working on it. Application in Apple The Business Model Innovation can be explained using the real time scenario of Apple incorporate. The Apple incorporate clearly ruled out the stated myth that innovation comes from idea nobody has before, as Apple did not invent Mp3 technology. They knows their target customer and provide them with the best value product and services. They offer superior products with superior sense of high end brand association with the brand, because of which they had a very high value proposition, they generated revenues through their products earlier. The Process that Apple followed to innovate Business model is (Haberberg,A, Rieple,A, 2001) First, Initiation they constantly analyzed the current Business model and constantly kept reinventing it. The 55 Innovation pattern on this basic the new business model is designed. Which shows exemplary performance in area of finance, product design etc. Two dimensions in which they innovated is the way they generated revenue earlier the revenues only came from the products now additional sources of income like animation, app development, music rights, and advertisement sales have come up, the value proposition is continuously innovated like number of applications, no advertisements in applications, extensive service network, and superior products and brand satisfaction among others. Advocating Ideas in Nokia Now this Business model innovation can be implemented in nokia since it is planning to reenter the smartphone market in the upcoming year. This would be the major change for the company since they have to decide the new target segment since the brand loyalties have shifted. Earlier they used to offer great hardware with an obsolete software which was the reason for the failure hence now they have opted to offer the latest software i.e. android maintaining their old competence of the superior hardware products, it would be difficult at first to access the value proposition they offer to the customer, moreover revenue sources would primarily be the sale of the products and may be later they can capitalize their brand equity. Conclusion: Business Model Innovation helps the organization to overcome the treat of path dependency faced by the organizations, taking example from successful organizations like apple organizations like Xiaomi and Nokia can successfully overcome issues related to strategic planning. The Gospel Of John Essays - Christology, Catharism, Gospel Of John

The Gospel of John annon An Essay Written for A Humanities Course That Studies the Bible As A Historical Document THE GOSPEL OF JOHN: The Man from Heaven, Bread of Life, Light of The World, Living Water, .... and of course, Son of Man. This is who Jesus is in The Gospel of John. Jesus' life is portrayed very differently from the other Synoptic Gospels; he lives completely within symbolism, and glorification. In reading the Gospel of John, I felt that Jesus was (more) clear to me, unlike my feelings in reading Matthew and Mark. Perhaps this is because I have gained knowledge of who the historical Jesus was since my first readings. However, I find that John writes about Jesus and Christianity more in the way that conventional American Christianity practices today! I see the verses most familiar to me (John 3:16), and I see the symbolism that I am used to. Most importantly, I see the lengthy teachings and sayings of Jesus, that are less frequent in the earlier gospels. This is the Jesus I am used to! Throughout this essay, I will show the parallels and differences from the Gospel of John and the earlier gospels (mostly Mark), as I discuss the anonymous evangelist(s)' conception of the word of God. 1. John 3:15 2. John 6:48 3. John 1:4 4. John 7:37-39 5. Has been believed to be: John, Son of Zebedee. The Gospel of John was written between 90-100 ADE. A late book in the New Testament, it deals with different problems than the early Gospel of Mark. Although the book does not try to stray from the special traditions of Christianity (after all, The Christian Church has become strong by this time), the book the Life of Jesus, to meet the needs of the community in 100 ADE. What were the changes that the Johannine Community had to deal with; and, how does the Gospel of John differ from earlier gospels to deal with these changes? The entire new testament is apocalyptic writing, by authors who (obviously) believe in the Parousia. We see a lot of different religions of the time develop a Christ figure ... it is a sign of the times; it reflects that most people were desperate for help from political and social problems that they could not escape. This is the community that the Gospel of Mark wrote for: the desperate, looking toward their God for help. Now the Gospel of John has to deal with the Parousia, that Christians believed was coming. The Johannine author(s) clearly had the Gospel of Mark available to them (and also possibly the Gospel of Luke). 6. I will compare only Gospel of Mark, as it is a main source for all later Gospels. With the entire tradition of the Jewish Christian apocalyptic, the idea could not be completely thrown out. What develops from this is the Johannine Realized Echatology (CH Dodd). This suggests that the future is here now: resurrection, judgement and eternal life are here .... as [you] believe in Jesus. He who s?8?T?ss?=? in Him is en( condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. -- John 3:18 I have mentioned many times that the Gospel writers were very traditional. The Johannine Community, although disenchanted with the idea of a Second Coming of Christ Resurrection, did not want to p?n?f?=?8?s?(?s?8? ? throw out the belief. Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live. -- John 5:25 Sounds a bit like hedging your bet, doesn't it? But seriously, the new understanding has shifted from Mark's Day of Judgment (occurring at a specific, unknown time), to John's Day of Judgment part of every day; where, reward or penalty will be seen at one's own time. Before concluding, I would like to make a comparison of the style and presentation of Jesus through the Gospel of John and the Gospel of Mark (the earlier gospel). As N. Perrin pointed-out, John 12:25-26 and Mark 8:34-35 appear to be written as the same thing. We know that John had the Markan writing available to him. How does he translate it? 7. Matthew 24:29-31, example of this. Matthew is nearly a straight translation of Mark (with many additions). Mark 8:34-35: If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loosed his like for my sake and the gospel's will

Ben Hur essays

Ben Hur essays Judah Ben-Hur is the main character in the movie Ben-Hur. He grows up in a wealthy and politically influential family who had everything they could possibly want. While still a young child, Judahs best friend, Messala, moved to Rome for education. As the years went by, Judah and Messala never forgot each other. But while in Rome, Messala grew to be a wicked man that would do anything or use anybody to gain social prominence. Ordered by the Emperor, Messala returned to his homeland to rule as a Tribune. Judah heard of Messalas return and met him as soon as he arrived. While talking with each other, they decide to see who can throw a javelin more accurately. Both men hit the same target and Judah interpreted this as a sign that Messala still considered them equal. Proving Romes ruthlessness, Messala only wanted to get information from Judah so that he could fulfill his orders of conquering the land. Through a long line of events, Messala condemned Judah because he refused to comply with Rome and turn in his friends. As a result, Judah ended up as a rower on a slave ship. During the three-year period where he was a slave at sea, he was ordered to row well and live or pay the penalty. Because Rome was so vindictive, anyone who wouldnt or couldnt follow orders would be put to death. Yet Judah did find compassion in one man, the captain of the fleet, who he quickly became friends with. During a battle with another fleet, Judahs ship was rammed and sank. While the majority of the slaves died, Judah escaped and saved the life of the captain. After floating on a piece of driftwood for a day, they were picked up by another Roman ship and discovered that their battle turned out to be a victory credited to the captain. Repaying Ben-Hur for his bravery, the captain adopted him when they returned to Rome. No longer a slave, Judah decided to return to his country and search for his moth...

CIS 498 discussions - Coursework Example The mind-set and behavioral changes have an impact on an IT leader’s ability to promote change in many ways. IT leaders should have the ability to recognize that there are success and failure patterns of behavior when promoting change. Hence, it becomes easier to observe the reaction of employees when there are changes. Understanding the specific mindset and the behavior associated also ensures that the IT leader has a level of insight on how to deal with employee reactions. Some of the top ten considerations mentioned by Roberts in Chapter 5 which are necessary when IT professionals are evolving into consultants include strategic thinking, active listening, empathy, trust and influence (2011). To achieve all the ten mentioned requirements, IT professionals need to be strategic thinkers, business acumen and know how to interact with others. The most paramount consideration among the ten is trust. IT professionals cannot achieve the ten considerations if he or she is not trustworthy. These changes have been advantageous to the business because people now embrace new ideas and products and are willing to spend more on new innovations. American History and Christianity Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

American History and Christianity - Essay Example Their justification of this in the name of God was because "Of all these nations God our Lord gave charge to one man St Peter, that he should be Lord and Superior of all men in the world and that he should be the head of all human race" (Rushforth & Mapp, p31). In their view if this was indeed the case then what the Pope said was absolute. The document goes on to state that any delay in refusing to convert to the Holy Catholic Faith will bare the consequences of war, a war that God would assist with. The Huron Indians were allies of the French. The French Canadians had been keen to develop trade relations with the Native Americans and when they were asked for help in a raid against the Iroquois tribe saw an opportunity to build relations (Calloway, p119). Father Jean Brebeuf was a French Jesuit missionary; the Jesuit order like the Spanish wished to convert the Native Americans to Christianity but did so in a very different manner to the Spanish. Whilst the Spanish colonized the Native American lands with aggressive tones in the name of God the French Jesuits introduced Christianity whilst being respectful of Native American own identities. Brebeuf lived with the Indians and like other Jesuits learned their language and studied their way of life and whilst may not have agreed with appreciated their customs. The Huron's tolerated the Jesuits as they wished to remain allies with the French and maintain trade relations but resented their criticism of their ideals, customs and lifes tyles (Calloway, p121). In comparison to the Spanish who threatened violence through non-conformity the Jesuits believed that the natives would and could conform if they were shown compassion. When disease struck in 1640 many Huron Indians blamed the Shamans for not protecting the people and turned to Christianity due to the Jesuits being unaffected by the small pox epidemic. The Jesuits had succeeded in their mission but had assisted in destroying a way of life that had sustained a culture for centuries. John Winthrop's Christian Charity speaks of unity and conformity and is quite authoritarian in its narrative. Whilst traveling to New England onboard the Arbella he Lisa Haddon 12th November 2008 wrote and preached the now famous sermon A Model of Christian Charity. The puritans on board were fleeing England in pursuit of individualism and spiritual freedom from the Church of England which they felt was a derivative of the Roman Catholic Church, Winthrop feared that the pursuit of this individualism would drive them apart once landing in New England or even worse in to the hostile hands of the natives and sought to hold the people together on board through the word of god. He begins his sermon by listing three reasons god made people different the first reason showing a preference for difference over uniformity. His second reason is "He might have the more occasions to manifest the work of His Spirit: first upon the wicked in moderating and restraining them, so that the rich and mighty should not eat up the poor, nor the poor and despised rise up against their superiors and shake off their yoke." (Rushforth & Mapp, p126).

Kate Chopins the Awakening Essay Example for Free

Kate Chopins the Awakening Essay The Awakening, Edna Pontellier is caught by the contradictions between the way others see her and the way she sees herself. The novella is a story narrating her awakening and discovery of self. â€Å"In short, Mrs. Pontellier was beginning to realize her position in the universe as a human being, and to recognize her relations as an individual to the world within and about her. †¦ How few of us ever emerge from the beginning! † The narrator is remarking at Edna’s boldness and uniqueness as an independent woman on a quest for self-discovery. And the narrator also points out â€Å"How many souls perish in [the beginnings] tumult! † which serves to predict the chaos that comes about as Edna’s awareness grows – and can also be read as a remark foreshadowing her death. The female role that involves bearing children and being a â€Å"perfect† wife is also an important aspect of the society represented in The Awakening. While this lifestyle suits someone like Adele Ratignolle, Edna finds it unbearable and oppressive. She loves Robert and he inspires her, but her awakening at Grand Isle was complex She does not simply find a new love interest, she finds a new way of appreciating and living life. Robert is more of an excuse and an occupation rather than a full explanation for her transformation. Even though Ednas awakening means she suffers from the resulting self-awareness, the year of joy and understanding that accompanies this suffering is worth more to her than a lifetime of the semi-conscious submission that defined her former existence. The years that are gone seem like dreams—if one might go on sleeping and dreaming—but to wake up and find—oh! well! Perhaps it is better to wake up after all, even to suffer, rather than to remain a dupe to illusions all ones life. † According to Edna, to live with self-awareness offers an existence far richer than a life lived according to the restricting â€Å"illusions† that are imposed by the expectations of others.

Government, Media, Censorship and Terrorism †Perhaps We Can’t Handle t

Government, Media, Censorship and Terrorism – Perhaps We Can’t Handle the Truth Government and media influencing each other is a tender ethical situation. Initially, it seems simply appalling that any government would either censor or use its media as a tool, but considering the possible benefits of such acts makes the issue more complex. What if censorship saves lives? What if manipulating the media brings a resolution to a conflict? Wartime especially brings these questions to the forefront. When peoples lives are at stake, often standard rules of morality must either be reconsidered or suspended. Wartime is also the only situation in which the government could get the support of such practices from a constituency with a free press. Practiced responsibly, censorship and manipulation can be quite effective. Although, there is always the legitimate fear of the slippery slope. First, I would like to examine media manipulation. In the United States, in accordance to our press tradition, this is seen as an absolute travesty. No self-respecting journalist w...

Marketing and PR Handout

Taking a Masters in Business Administration degree means that you need to understand each and every aspect of the organization you work in.  Ã‚  Ã‚   Knowledge in Marketing and PR will equip you with the essential tools to make your own business or organization survive the competition.   Below are my insights from taking Marketing and PR course:1. Brand equity, which is the position that a product or company holds in the minds of the consumers is primary to creating the character and personality of your product.2. Branding integrates the overall strategies of your company or brand – advertising, marketing programs, customer service, public relations (Ochman, n.d.).   Make sure you give your brand a consistent positioning approach.3. Marketing is not just about offering discounts on coupons or giving away prizes in raffles.   It is about integrating effective tools to communicate with your market.4. Four Ps of marketing stand for Product, Price, Place and Promotion.   These determine the direction of your product, and integrate your programs to ensure consistency and synergy in your efforts (Arens, W., 2005).5. Market penetration strategies determine the total market potential, then divide that potential by the amount of product that is already sold or purchased (Berry, T., 2007).   If not done right, you may end up picking yourself on the wrong side of the road, with unjustifiable expenses and wasted efforts.6. Rewarding your loyal customers is a powerful tool nowadays to keep them coming back (Marketing Tricks for the Frugal Budget, 2003).   This gives rise to Relationship Marketing, ensuring that everything from customer service to after-sales service is going smoothly (Arens, W., 2005).7. Use discounts and promos sparingly.   Otherwise, people may think that your product is not good enough because they are always on sale (Marketing Tricks for the Frugal Budget, 2003).8. In Public Relations, you need to take care of your image to the pu blic, and equally important, to the media.   Otherwise, you risk yourself of being cast in the shadows of darkness, because media create the buzz for your product or company.9. The media coverage that you get through recommendations of editors, write-ups in columns and mentions in press releases is more powerful than advertising.   Utilize this as often and as effective as you can.10. Advertising is an effective tool to promote your product, which is why it does not come cheap (Arens, W., 2005).   You have to make sure that you pick the right medium for your product to reach the right market.ReferencesArens, W.   (2005).   Contemporary Advertising.   McGraw Hill, pp. 325-328.Berry, T. Summary of Thomas Hobbes Self-Love. Essay - 676 Words

Summary of ‘Self Love’ by Thomas Hobbes Thomas Hobbes opens with the idea that all animals live within two sets of perpetual motion. The first being the inborn nature of animals to breath, the pulse and course of blood, the acquiring of nutrition and the exertion that follows, his vital motions. The second animal motions are voluntary, to speak, move and go. These voluntary motions are fueled by ones thought and imagination and are not always apparent to us. Essentially, Hobbes is saying that our thoughts propel us into motion or â€Å"endeavor.† When endeavor draws us toward something it is the cause of â€Å"appetite† or â€Å"desire†, what it is pushing us from something it is â€Å"aversion.† Appetites and aversions are both inborn and learned, but are†¦show more content†¦The thought that all men feel that they are greater than the other actually makes them more alike. Thomas Hobbes then begins to explain that what any one man has another may take at will. Some men take pleasure in the conquest of what belongs to another and will take more than they need, while others are content with the bare essentials. Hobbes states that, because it is in mans nature to increase his own power it should be â€Å"allowed.† Hobbes states that there are three causes for quarrels between men, the first being competition and the want for man to gain from another through violence. The second is diffidence, or a lack of confidence in one’s own ability of worth which in turn causes men to fight for safety, perhaps to distract another from his insecurities. The third is for the sake of glory, or to secure his reputation. Thomas Hobbes says that, because all men have a natural animalistic inclination to fight for what we want and believe we deserve, a â€Å"common power†, a government or hierarchy of some sort, is vital to maintaining a semblance of peace. Hobbes muses that, without security outside of us there will be no industry or commodities, no modern c omforts, no society. Without someone to lord over us in some way our future will be one of â€Å"continual fear, and danger of violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (pg. 48). And, while we enjoy theShow MoreRelatedThe Philosophy of Thomas Hobbs Essay1748 Words   |  7 PagesThomas Hobbss philosophy Hobbes Moral: Thomas Hobbes is known best for his political thought and the English philosopher.
